ISO 9001: 2015 is now by far the world’s most established quality framework and sets the standard not only for quality management systems, but management systems in general.
History
In 1966, the UK Government led the first national campaign for quality and reliability with the slogan "Quality is everyone's business." Five years later BSi produced the first UK standard for quality assurance. BS 9000, which was developed for the electronics industry. Through the 1970's, BSi organised meetings with industry to set a common standard, this culminated in the BS 5750 standard in 1979 and key industry bodies agreed to drop their own standards and use BS 5750 instead.
ISO 9000 as we know it has evolved from BS5750 and the original update in 1987. Further enhancements and updates followed in 1994 and 2000. The latter sought to make a radical change in thinking. It placed the concept of process management at the heart of the standard.
Who is it relevant to?
The simple answer is everyone. Every business wishes to improve. The way an organisation operates, the means to increase market share, drive down costs, improve customer satisfaction and
reduce risk. A quality management system provides the framework necessary to monitor and improve performance in any area you choose.
ISO 9001:2015 is suitable for every business wishing to improve the way it operates, regardless of its size or sector.
AVP Limited Management Consultancy's approach is simple.
We believe that any business which has been trading for a period of time cannot be doing that much wrong. By documenting process activities by 'say what you do' then verify by checking that you ' do what you say' we create minimal negative impact on the day to day running of the business. System changes will only be amended as nesessary to meet the requirement of the standard and then only with the full agreement of the Client.
We quickly establish the process activities and produce a documented quality system specific to the business including a tailored quality policy statement, manual, process procedures and additional forms as necessary.
Appropriate training will be provided to ensure the organisation has the ability to maintain and improve the system.
A full system audit is conducted prior to any 3rd party certification assessment to ensure the system is fully compliant with the requirements of the standard.
ISO 9001: 2015 is designed to be compatible with other standards and specifications, such as ISO 14001:2015 Environment and ISo45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety. They can be integrated seamlessly as they share many principles so choosing an integrated management system can be effective, efficient and economical.
